I read this a few days ago, but wanted to come back and tell you it was awesome. Very well-written and right on. I cannot believe it has been 5 years. And I remember the day the first Gulf War broke out. Changed my life, and my whole world view.

It would be very important for me to know the specific issue of the National Geographic Magazine from which you took the image of the dead albatross with the plastic pieces next to him.

We were planning on heading out there this weekend, but now a huge storm is rolling in and will stick around all weekend….so the very next weekend there isn’t a nasty storm, we’re going! I’ve actually never seen a whale in person!

Nice post. Good to see someone out there thinks of the whales.

As far as Japan goes, it would not be the end of life for them if they would let go of the lie that they “must” eat whales to survive. Whales have been in existence longer than humans, and humans can adapt to life without whale blubber on the table.

If they really wanted to.
